Barzella Papa is the current President and CEO of the Community Foundation of North Central Florida. Under her direction, the Community Foundation has doubled in assets in just seven years to total $16 million under management, awarded more than $9 million in grants and has launched such successful initiatives as the Women’s Giving Circle and the Legacy Award. As a member of the Junior League of Gainesville, she served as chairman of Fund Development and created the League’s signature fundraising event—The Tour of Kitchens. She was elected President of the League within seven years of membership and her service to the League earned her the Most Outstanding Volunteer Award and the League’s Legacy Award. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a graduate of Leadership Florida. She earned her Certified Fund Raising Executive designation in 2012 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Florida Performing Arts Center and Oak Hall School. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Communications where she won several national awards for her writings. Before moving to Gainesville, she worked in publishing at Oxmoor House Books in Birmingham, Alabama (the book division of Southern Living) and Time Life Books in Alexandria, Virginia.
